Discover defensive strategies that include the most powerful instinct, a mother's love - the protection of the next generation. It is the act of self-sacrifice or risk of harm that typifies a mother's defence of her offspring.

**Ch4 - Protection**

Learn how animals use all sorts of strategies to protect their families and food from marauders.

**Ch5 - Family**

Exploring the many different concepts of family in the natural world getting together, the raising of cubs and chicks and how family bonds can determine an animal's fate.

**Ch6 - Blood Kin**

Revealing more family strategies at work, and the heavy price the young pay in hostile takeovers.

**Ch7 - Competition**

Looking at the ever-present challenges presented by competing for food, mating rights or territory. The competitive spirit is shown in the hunt, the competition between predator and prey.

**Ch8 - Rivals**

Some animals in the Serengeti seem to be forever at war. Species compete with each other over territories, ring fencing these areas with scent marking.

**Ch9 - Migration**

The great herds take centre stage, running the gamut of predators and pressures unique to this nomadic way of life.

**Ch10 - Journey**

The annual migration continues on through more hazards and dangers.

**Ch11 - Water Worlds**

Turning to the rivers and lakes contained in the Serengeti eco-system and looking at creatures whose lives are controlled by the presence or lack of life-giving water.

**Ch12 - River Giants**

Exploring the river environment, where the enormous Nile crocodiles and hippopotamus are found.
