The Battle of Midway 4 June 1942 Following the embarrassment caused by the Doolittle Raid on Tokyo, the Japanese devised a climactic battle over the island of Midway intended to finish U.S. naval power in the Pacific. On June 4th 1942 three aircraft carriers of the United States and and four of Japan fought a battle that changed the course of World War II. At a tiny atoll in the Pacific Ocean, the massed forces of the US and Japanese fleets meet for a decisive showdown. In the space of just four minutes, the entire course of World War II is about to be transformed… Won by the United States, the Battle of Midway symbolizes the use of a whole new military technology aircraft carriers.
