BBC - Winterwatch Extras Series (2022) (2)

Extra Winterwatch stories.

Ch1 Dedicated Naturalists

Winter never seems like the most hospitable of seasons. Our weather is often unwelcoming and rarely encouraging but there are still determined naturalists who will brave the winter chill to protect our beloved wildlife. Lucy Hodson loves the tiny creatures that live in the woodland leaf litter beneath our feet. Pine Martens are the passion of Robert Cruickshank who regularly welcomes them into his garden in Oban. We meet an inspiring young man from Sunderland who hasn't let his sight impairment dampen his enthusiasm for wildlife photography and a birder from the Midlands reveals the hidden world of one of our most elusive winter birds – the Jack Snipe.

Ch2 Wistful Moments

This is an opportunity to switch off from the stresses of our busy lives and immerse ourselves in pure nature. We've sent some of the country's best natural history camera operators out into their local wild spaces to capture moments of pure peace and natural beauty. No music, no presenter voice-over, just natural sound and glorious pictures to take us to the places we've missed whilst we've been in lockdown. We'll see short-eared owls as they hunt across the Cotswolds, our favourite snowdrops emerge, salmon leap in the full winter rivers and corvids swoop across our skies before roosting for the night.
