Channel 4 - The Pennines Backbone of Britain (2022)

An exploration of the mountain range and the people who live there.

Chapter 1 The Peak District
The first episode comes from the Peak District National Park, a popular destination for climbers. The area is also a vital water catchment that supplies the neighbouring industrial towns and cities. In the northern part of the Peak District, not far from Sheffield, is a reservoir called Ladybower - a place synonymous with the Dambusters Raid.

Chapter 2 The South Pennines
Exploring the moors of Yorkshire and Greater Manchester. A group of friends take a boating holiday along one of the region's great canals, including the longest tunnel in Europe. At the Dog & Partridge pub, regulars get together every Saturday night to enjoy local folk music that has been passed down through the generations.

Chapter 3 The Yorkshire Dales
A livestock auctioneer prepares for the biggest sale of his career so far, while a farmer in Ravenstonedale, Cumbria, uses goats' milk to make products from cheese to soap. A mountain guide ensures that walkers attempting the gruelling 24-mile challenge of Yorkshire's Three Peaks in under 12 hours make it to the end of their journey safely.

Chapter 4 The North Pennines
Cameras follow shepherds Natalie and Greg Dalton, who look after two farms in some of Britain's wildest countryside - high in the Tees and Wear Valleys. They also have a family of three children, and Natalie is weeks away from giving birth to baby number four just as work ramps up for the auction series.
