Channel 5 - Britains Favourite 80s Song (2020)

What are the best songs to come from the British Isles during the '80s? A countdown of the Greatest Songs of, arguably (surely?!) the Greatest decade in music, as voted by the Great British public! Memories of a musical decade like no other - the weird, wild and wonderful 1980s, an era dubbed the golden age of music. Craig Charles narrates this musical celebration of the decade that fashion forgot. However, while no one is in any rush to be repeating the styles of 40 years ago (shoulder pads, back-combed hair, spandex shorts and leg-warmers anyone?) the music lives on and on. After all, this was the era that gave the world synth-pop, the New Romantics and the Hit Factory of Stock, Aitken and Waterman. But what were the top 50 songs of the decade? The 1980s was a great decade for British songs, which becomes all the more clear if you've ever heard a little tune called “Bohemian Rhapsody” by Queen, but that was hardly the only band to kick out killer tracks in the '80s. George Michael released a few amazing tracks including “Faith” and “Wake Me Up Before You Go Go” while Culture Club dropped “Karma Chameleon,” which is probably running through your head right now after simply reading the title. Other amazing hits to come from the decade include “Shout” by Tears for Fears, “Leave In Silence” by Depeche Mode, and The Eurythmics' “Sweet Dreams” among many obvious others from artists like Billy Idol and Phil Collins. Combined ratings of well over 3m make this the Greatest hit in our history! Featuring the top 50 1980s songs as voted for by the public and interviews with the stars who sang them, the producers who made them and the celebrity super-fans who loved them - and still do.
