The world is holding its breath, hoping that the Soviets aren't going to fire the missiles at the United States, and the Soviets are crossing their fingers for the U.S. not to launch its Turkey-based arsenal at the USSR. But what's less-known is that on October 1, 1962 four Russian Foxtrot submarines left Murmansk on a top secret mission. Bound for Cuba, each carried a nuclear-tipped torpedo. If attacked, the commanders have been directed to use the nuclear weapons. This is the untold story of four submarines at the front line of a nuclear standoff. To get the story, producers analyzed freshly unclassified reports, interviewed Robert McNamara (JFK's Defense Secretary) and traveled to Russia to interview the Soviet captains.
