Part 4 Les sacrés

In northern Ethiopia, in the legendary city of Axum, a sycamore fig tree has stood for nearly two hundred years. Once deified, today it is the motionless witness of the Orthodox rites of believers, not far from the chapel where the Ark of the Covenant would rest. 4000 Km away, in the Indian state of Punjab, the inhabitants of the village of Cholti Kheri worship a huge banyan tree. Nicknamed “the sage”, it has a gigantic root network that covers several hectares. Having become sacred, these two trees, close cousins, carry the hope of men.
