ZDF - Amazon River Crocs (2010)

Unblinking red eyes glide along the silent black surface of the tropical river like faintly glowing embers in the dusk. Hoarse barkings nearby always remind cameraman and biologist Rainer Bergomaz that he is close to one of the biggest living reptiles on earth- the black caiman.

Up to seven meters long and weighing more than one ton, it is heavier thank both bison and grizzly bears. The black caiman is the largest predator of the Americas and definitely the least studied.

Rainer Bergmaz and his Amerindian friend and colleague Yung Sandy had to travel far into the wild heart of Guyana´s Hinterland to find the shy and rare reptile. They dared to start a last breathtaking test: diving with caimans to get insight into their complex lives and social structures.
